Perspective is an essential element of art, images, and Organization. Philosophy (THINKING) is also foundamental to designing anything, artistic or productive. Both are important in organization and utilizing resources, spaces, things and time. When you want to "IMPROVE" something you need to look at things with Perspective and Philosophy in mind. Also, looking at the logistical elements, the structure of the area to be used. Placement, function, and the astetical elements (decorations, furnishings, storage elements, ect..). Many times, disorganization is really an incompatibility issue, which should be looked at as (INCOMPAT~Ablility) because when You, the Space, and/or the activities or work to be done are not in sync, disfunction is the result.

If you feel unproductive, unorganized, or otherwise unsatisfied with your space and or productivity, you are probably suffering from DISfunction. Some say I am a packrat, to them I say :: "I am not, I am just really attached to things and especially pictures and personal memomentos" . A few years ago I began digitalizing things so that I could enjoy my memories and things and my husband could enjoy the rest of the house. I took photos, scans and put them onto CD's and then I saved up and purchased a nice portable disk drive that could be locked for security (BIG MISTAKE!!) and moved pictures off my computer onto the portable disk drive, not nervous at all because I had my CD's as backup...

Well as the song says, "WRONG AGAIN!" much to my heart break, two of the cd's have a scratch or error and will not read in the computer, the disk drive on my laptop is not working and worst of all, the disk drive that has THOUSANDS of pictures spanning the 10 years we have been here in Carolina (much of Charles 15.11 months of life) are on this drive that is now not working.

I have pictures in many photo albums and many are posted in 2 or 3 places on digital storage but the task of figuring out where I put specific pictures is very difficult now that I can't remember everything I use to know at the click of a button. It has taken me months to collect and reorganize my files and convert pictures, and videos to be able to load. I am searching for the best tools to keep things organize from here on and that those interested in seeing the pictures and files can use when I am gone.

I hope these pictures bring joy to younger generations and help people understand who I was and what I valued...Family! History! and anything I was blessed to be a participant.

Beautiful "Crystal or Cut Glassware" We received these pieces as shower/wedding gifts and just don't entertain or decorate like we did in Virginia and with this being our 11 year NC anniversary felt it is time to REPURPOSE this space.

Medium sized Cut Glass or Lead crystal Water Pitcher.. Gently used. "Grape" design cut into surface. The sticker came off, and no box or other markings. Very similar to "Lead Crystal Water Picture, Pineapple design" found on line. $75.00

Well when unpacking treasures of the past and attempting to find a place of utilization for everything sometimes becomes a futile act. Everything treasured from multiple people rarely share themes, usages or even common sizes. Too many individualized interests leads to clutter and disorganization which results in waste, loss of space and function. This will not "work itself out" or "be tolerated" in our Home of designed utilization and functionality. Having items just because and keeping them in boxes or just stacked up is not good for the valued item or our home. SO... we are relocating some items and while packing up and moving things into better utilized spaces I found some amazing finds and was instantly moved by the lost time these items have spent on a shelf unused and unappreciated.

Our "extra room/former homeschool room/Office/Home Gym with amazing storage shelves built by my husband has challenged me to the inth degree to make it pleasing to all and yet make it function appropriately. I have moved and redecorated, repurposed items and purchased new (used) items to make this room work and I am still working to achieve the perfect room. It is so worth it though when you get serious about the House and Life you are managing. Why own a home and all the responsibilities if you are not going to reap benefits of ownership? Why have THINGS if they are just items stuffed in corners, closets and baskets all over the house.

If you spend hour (s) moving and switching out items. Or moving items out of the way to use other items or areas it could show a need for redefining your spaces, their purpose, desired function and holding to those refreshed priorities and goals. It doesn't have to take long or involve alot of people; and may have to be all your stuff that is sacraficed for the functionality of all. But, it will be worth it.. as it is only stuff... take pictures to remember the treasured times with the items and enjoy the space their removal makes.

I did it from my bed, after taking some pictures of the room and its current arrangement, the available storage and items as they are currently and then thinking for a few minutes of what I wanted this valuable space to do.

Take a tour of your home. Look at all the areas and "sections or stations" for activity.

What happens in these areas? (No Judging...) If you don't like the activities could rearranging the area change the enjoyment in that area? Could removing an item create a new activity or focus? Where would the item go? Move the item! Now take a picture of the empty space. :) ah that felt good didn't it!.

Next. Rearrange the room. Is it working? If not keep going to get the result you invisioned. It is important to have the space in working order and for it to be easy to explain and see the benefits. (Be prepared for "skeptics and cool responses.... discuss the need for the change in a calm manner and then if over ruled.. accept it and move on..).

Enjoy the time with the changes and make sure you have everything neat and organized for the "reveal".

Did your first rearrangement work?? yeah me neither. But it did get the stuff out from under the furniture. My mind got to see and feel my idea and know it looked good and would have worked but the family needs to like it and agree to the new functions. So I am awaiting the "next" arrangement but at least I made changes and some of them will last, cause it was my gift to our improved household efficiency and functioning.

As a result of moving things around and changing areas I will be getting rid of a desk and my skeletons ; ( and with that money I will get myself something for ME :).

The desk "closed" it is "raised and open" at the bottom.as to not block the vents in the floors. It is 32'' wide. Nice wood. Dark brown (Mahogany) finish.

Inside view with "writing surface open. Lots of cubbys and file holders. a "Wake Forest" phone book will fit in the opening to the left. and the smaller one fits in the ones on the right. The small drawer above the opening in the center is perfect for stamps.

Drawers are "duck tailed" and spacious.

And my trust study aids.. Skelton in a bottle has a book about the skelton with it, the bones snap together like a puzzle to make the skeleton. There is a "Key". The parts have been numbered. "Gently Used" $10.00

this is my favorite, it is a "Minature of the Medical school (Anatomy) skeleton (dummy) the arms and legs articulate and the jaw and skull open and can be taken off. One of the screws rolled away and has been replaced with a slightly large one. but it works well. The stand unscrews from the base. and the legs could be folded if need be. I purchased this from a medical school bookstore. $25.00

Do you have items that no longer match, or need an item and cannot find the color you want? Paint it yourself!!! Spray paint, is inexpensive and quick and can turn items into fresh and newly purposeful for a few dollars.

Look around your house for boxes and baskets that are not being used, they make great shelf organizers, toy caddy's, quick declutter catchers.

Collapsable baskets and containers are great space savers and can serve many purposes therefore, making them great investments. When they are not being used, collapse them and store them under a bed or in the bottom of a closet.

Do you have binders that have been written on with permanent marker? Don't throw them away they can be cleaned quickly with alcohol or Acetone fingernail polish or articifial nail remover.

Summer is almost here, time to pack up school stuff and organize

Ah!... School is almost out, Homeschooling year is drawing to a close, summer fun is here. However, in just 3 short months Fall and a new year will be here. It's time to get things packed up, cleaned out and ready. Time to make the memory books and boxes, pack things up for move in day at college.

Need an extra hand? call me and I can assist or come in and pack up everything.

Also a quick solution to those struggling with getting started cleaning out and organizing is the "Beginners Box". The hardest part of any cleaning and organizing project is getting started and overcoming the overwhelming fear that it will never get done. Well with the "Beginners Box" and my help it will.

Here is how it works:

You take the box and start with one surface, one drawer or one shelf, load everything that will fit into this box.
As you are clearing off the space If you can "sort" out the "To Keep", "To Sell", "To Return" "To Give away/donate ($Tax deduction!!) or "To Throw away" you will have more space in your box and may be able to get two areas done in one trip. (Quicker progress and Save time and Money and get a reward too! )

But, Do not worry if that is too much at first. You can just fill the box and I will do that part.

Next, you call me and I will come over and go through the box and sort things out. Suggestion Files or other means to store the items you want to keep and help you proceed to continue until you have reclaimed your space. We can do as many boxes together as you want. Each trip will take about an hour and is $20.00. I can haul off the donations and the trash for $10.00.

The Beginners Box is also a great way to start a filing system, memory box or book, organize photos or other specific collection. Filing into your exsisting system will also qualify for this system. Scanning items into your computer or storing them on CD to retrieve later. (scanning is extra).

The Year is over, How Can I Organize and Utilize a Years worth of memories?

Time and Space are precious, having your treasures and loved ones nearby is priceless.
The items around your house and living spaces say alot about you. What does your house and space say about you?

Well, another year of life has passed. Pictures, souvenirs, school projects, papers, all the things accumulated through out the year that hold so much meaning are stacked up, shoved in a box or sitting on a shelf. What can you do with these memories and special items that you can share them, use them and see them easily and frequently?
Scan pictures and documents and store on DVD's, use them in slideshows, and digital photo albums.
Slideshows made into DVD's
Video your kids looking at the stuff and remembering the events and trips.
Albums and scrapbooks
Digital scrapbooks
Take Pictures of your items that are not absolutely necessary, but that you treasure.
Use "shadowbox" frames to make items into "art" and hang it on the wall.
Make treasured items into useful items, placemats, artwork, books, ect.
Some pictures and papers and things can be donated to teachers or schools to use in lessons.

Have things that you want to get rid of but do not know what to do with them, do not want to just throw them in the land fill like trash? Have a bon-fire. It is like a ceremony, you can clear boxes and boxes of paper, pictures that are not wanted anymore, most things can be disposed of. and you can enjoy the warmth of the fire, the dancing flames and the empty boxes or shelves to have room for other treasures that do not have a place of honor in your home.

Newest Storage Solutions that really work!!!!

Have you noticed it seems your house is shrinking??? Storage space is at a premium for the necessities, like blankets, spare pillows and linens. Well here are a few inexpensive solutions that are simple but yet provide great returns on the investment.

The first one, I saw at a friends house and thought, "what a genius". These are almost priceless, for about $9.99 per box of 4. If you have a king size bed you need 2 boxes and then you end up with 2 left over. However, it is worth every penny to gain the storage space lost under the bed. This creates about 2 inches of more space under the bed and opens up all kinds of possibilities. For us, it created a bed for our dog, and eliminated the unsightly doggy bed that took up valuable space.

Second find is almost as benefical. zipper closing Jumbo Storage bags!!!! you get a box of 3 for about 6.99. Hefty has coupons all the time and I found mine at Walmart. I have also seen them at BJ's. The possibilities for condensing bulky items and storing items in shed and outside storage units without risking moisture or bug damage.

I love photos, mine, yours, the ones in the store, online, any and all. Alot can be learned from a photo. As a Human Service student I do alot of research on counseling and therapies and thought this "Photo Therapy" was very interesting and very helpful. I have been using it for years and did not even realize it.

3 Steps to Organization

A large plastic tote box with items to be sorted.

A plastic hanging file box with hanging folders and manilla folders. This will also be your "projects in action" organizer. This is the most you can have going on or to be dealt with at a time.

Scan documents, pictures and other notes into your computer and store them on CD or DVD. Hundreds of CDs or DVDs take up the space of 1 large book.
Many pages of information, 1,000's of pictures and drawings can be stored on a DVD. Slideshows can be made to play on your DVD player for added benefit and enjoyment anytime you pop it in.

These are the basics of my "technical" organization plan. Using these methods I have been able to break my clutter into managable portions, sort it out and find appropriate homes for the items or place them in my "projects in action" box to get them scanned and stored on a CD or DVD.

Books and DVD movies that we are not using anymore I consign or sale for extra money or trade them in for store credit for future wanted or needed materials.

Going from Chaos to Order can happen quickly and painlessly. You need three rules that you will stick to throughout the process and after you are initally organized to maintain the order.

1. Everything has a place, and must be in that place. If you need to make a shelf or buy a bookcase to make it happen then that needs to be put on the must happen list. To start out clear off a bookshelf and place things back as you sort, you may find you have plenty of room once you sort things that are in that area and remove things that need to be relocated or removed.

2. You have to define your area that you are working in, Closet, room, shelf, etc. Set the boundaries of that area and stick with that. You will need a place to store things until you are through. It can be another room, another area within the same room, boxes in the shed, whatever works for you, but you need to decide, write down your plan and then be diligent and consistent.

3. You need to set a time frame for this organization project. You should be able to sort through a large tote within 1 hour. So look at your area and see how many totes you think you are going to need to go through. Write this down as well. Until you complete your sorting and organizing of the area, new purchases can only be made on an emergency basis.

Would you like to keep your treasured books, curriculum, Dvds, Cds, computer programs that you are not using but really enjoy and can't part with them. But, also need space and other materials. What if you could do both? Awesome right, but how?

Bartering Resources is the perfect answer. Okay, good idea but where and how is this done?

Well, I have a group of moms, Titus2momsgroup on Yahoo and one of our services is bartering resources. It is quick and easy, you keep your resources but, you lend them out to other like minded moms and can borrow other resources that you may need that are just sitting on someone else's shelf. It helps both the owner and the searcher of the resource out.

These are some slideshows I made for our family enjoyment, gifts and for school lessons. These are pretty normal slideshows but there are options to change several things; the speed, if the pictures are synced to the songs or if the songs are synched to the pictures, special effects ect.

We all have a method to our madness. There is a reason why you like things the way you do. That is part of who you are. If you like, cluttered, unorganized, unhealthy areas of your home, well I will pray for you and we can meet at my house. However, if you are just terrified of losing your prized collections of magazines you want to read, pictures, notebooks, photo albums, scrapbook materials, cropped pictures, and whatever else you hold near and dear and do not know where to begin then I can help.

I am the self-proclaimed queen of (managed) clutter. However, you would never know it unless you stop by unannounced and I am in the middle of working on a project. I am very good at finding a way to compromise orderliness with being able to have my treasures available and have creative ways to display them. My husband will admit to being the local version of "Monk", the Extreme Obsessional Compulsive organizer. His ideal room is symmetrically balanced, avoid of any clutter whatsoever (no knickknacks, books etc.) I am a very sentimental, visual and symbolic person. I love to see my treasures, pictures of family members and special event mementoes often. IMy house is full due to a fear of getting rid of something and then needing it. After many disagreements with my husband, I decided to find a way we could both be happy.

I tried having other people help me organize my home, but that was always awkward and painful to have my treasures devalued and removed from the home. Therefore, I decided to work on a personal solution. I came up with my "technical organizing" method. I utilized my computer skills and devices and was able to accomplish my goal, a house my husband was happy with and an organized storage of my treasures that kept them usable and handy. Eventually, you will get rid of some things but this makes the stress and loss much easier and you can start immediately!
